The passing of Andrew MacDonald, past President of SMFPA

Andrew MacDonald passed away after a short battle with cancer on May 8, 2023, at the age of 62. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorna Macdonald (Tucker). Andrew was an amazing father to Tyler (Britanny), Shannon, Dontae, Sarina, and Ransom.

Andrew grew up in Falconbridge and continued to live there for the majority of his life.  He was an active volunteer for 44 years throughout his various roles in minor hockey.

Andrew's active community involvement didn’t stop with hockey, he was also a dedicated foster parent for 23 years, playing a special role in the lives of many children. At his passing, he was the president of the Sudbury Manitoulin Foster Parent Association.

The passing of Shah Roskies

Shuah Roskies has been a powerful and compassionate member of the child welfare sector. Coming from her background in law and through her involvement in the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, she capitalized on a time in our lives that should have had us all isolated. Instead, she used COVID, and our wakening to the cracks in the sector, to bring us all together, to introduce us across panels, to bring fresh insights to a worried and frustrated consort. She had us sharing information, networking, and making new associates and friends.

We will never forget her contributions or her fierce bravery in cutting through the barriers to bring the best to our children and youth in care.

Condolences to her family. Thank you for sharing her with our world.
